One Board
Yesterday I attached one decking board to our deck. The structure was in good shape, but the surface boards were no longer solid, so those had to be replaced. A few steps took place before I put on that one board.
I had to outline the deck with boards to give it a finished look before I put on that one new decking board.
Before the outline, we had to put sealing tape across the joists and flashing next to the house to keep the structure in good shape.
Before we did the water sealing, we had to replace a few of the framing boards that were soft, and we had to build up the outside edges to support the outside boards.
Before we improved the structure, we had to remove all the old decking boards and dispose of them.
Before we tore up the old deck, I ordered the new boards to be here when we started the work.
Before ordering the new boards, I had to measure everything to know what to order. (I could probably keep going.)
If someone would look at our deck today, they would see one attached board. They might mock me for only attaching the one board they see, but they don’t see all the work that has been done to get to this point.
Sometimes our progress looks small, but others may not be able to see all the steps needed to make it to that small step, so be kind to yourself. You’ll see more progress in the future.
