Outside Perspective.

Sometimes it is a piece of spinach stuck between your teeth. Sometimes it is a pair of shoes that just doesn’t work with what you are wearing. Sometimes it is a comment that didn’t land the way that you intended. In each situation, an outside perspective can reveal something that you might not be able to see on your own.

When I sit down with someone as a coach and thinking partner, I don’t always have more knowledge or experience than the person I am working with, but since I am outside of the system, I can often notice things they know but haven’t considered recently. With just a question or two, the person can see the path that would be most beneficial to them and others involved in the situation.

Often we don’t want to bother other people to get their thoughts on a subject, or when we do talk to them, we want to make sure they see things just the way that we do so that we can confirm that we are doing a good job. It can be hard to ask someone to look for things that we can’t see in our own stories and situations, but it’s an excellent way to get that piece of spinach.
